Taliban Urges US To Act Responsibly Over Afghan Asylum Seekers

Afghanistan International2 Nov 2026

The Taliban’s Foreign Ministry responded to reports that some Afghan asylum seekers could be deported from the United States to Pakistan, urging Washington to act responsibly and carefully in determining their fate.

In a statement issued on Monday, 2 November, the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry said decisions concerning the fate of Afghan citizens should be based on mutual understanding, coordination and respect for their rights and legitimate demands.

Without naming Pakistan, the Taliban called on regional countries not to make deals over the fate of citizens of other countries and to take human dignity and humanitarian principles into account when making decisions.

The group said it was ready to cooperate in facilitating the safe, dignified and voluntary return of Afghan citizens.

The statement comes after The New York Times recently reported that US President Donald Trump’s administration was seeking to deport more than 150 Afghan asylum seekers to Pakistan.
