The 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is scheduled to take place in Baghdad on Saturday and Sunday next week.
The main theme of the meeting is “Dialogue and Solidarity: Two Essential Pillars for Promoting Peace and Sustainable Development.”
So far, 53 of the organization’s 57 member states have confirmed their participation.
According to a statement from the OIC, the situation in Afghanistan will be among the main topics discussed at the meeting.
The statement said: “The 52nd Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad will discuss key regional issues: the situation in Yemen, the crises in Sudan and Afghanistan, the Israeli aggression against Syria, and the conditions of Muslim minorities and communities.”
Although the participation of the Islamic Emirate’s foreign minister has not yet been confirmed, an OIC delegation visited Kabul this week and held talks with Islamic Emirate officials on humanitarian issues and girls’ right to education.
At the end of his visit to Afghanistan, the OIC Secretary-General’s Special Envoy met with ambassadors of the organization’s member states in Kabul and stressed the importance of coordinating efforts among member countries.
In a statement, the OIC said: “Ambassador Bakheet emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts among OIC Member States and called for continued cooperation to meet Afghanistan’s humanitarian and development needs. The briefing also provided an opportunity to exchange views on the OIC’s current and future activities in Afghanistan.”
Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Islamic Emirate’s foreign minister, attended the 51st session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, held in Istanbul, Türkiye, in early summer 2025.
