Trump criticizes US withdrawal from Afghanistan, calling it humiliating, pledging stronger military leadership and vowing similar exits will never happen again.
Speaking to military families at Fort Bragg, Trump said the Biden administration handled the withdrawal from Afghanistan poorly, describing it as a damaging moment for America’s global image.
Trump argued that US forces should have withdrawn with dignity and strength rather than leaving behind military equipment, which he said weakened American credibility.
He also criticized decisions to leave aircraft and military assets behind, saying they could have easily been flown out instead of being abandoned.
The US president added he would not allow such a withdrawal again and claimed his leadership has rebuilt America’s military strength since returning to office.
The chaotic US withdrawal in 2021 ended two decades of military presence in Afghanistan and led to the rapid takeover of the country by the Taliban.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid previously said the group considers abandoned US military equipment as war gains and would not return them.
Meanwhile, debates over the withdrawal remain politically sensitive in the United States, with the issue continuing to shape domestic and foreign policy discussions.
