Planning for ‘Afghan Gathering’ Underway: Samangani

Some political figures have urged the Islamic Emirate to invite its opponents to the gathering.

Following reports of a national Loya Jiga-like gathering, the Islamic Emirate stated that planning for this meeting is ongoing.

“The Political Commission of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is planning to convene an Afghan gathering, the design of which is still underway and its title and format have not been determined yet,” said Inamullah Samangani, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate.

According to Inamullah Samangani, the Islamic Emirate’s deputy spokesperson, it is unclear if women will be permitted to attend the meeting.

“It is too early to say who will be invited and from which parts of the country,” said Inamullah Samangani, deputy spokesman of the Islamic Emirate.

Some political figures have urged the Islamic Emirate to invite its opponents to the gathering.

“First of all, it is important that those who are invited should be from the entire society of Afghanistan. All figures who are for and against the Islamic Emirate should be invited to speak and their voices should be heard,” said Sayed Ishaq Gailani, leader of the Afghan National Solidarity Movement.

“A true national Loya Jirga (would be) composed of all ethnic groups of Afghanistan, where scholars, elders, civil activists, women and university professors participate, in which the will of the people is represented,” said Shahzada Massoud, political analyst.

Previously, former President Hamid Karzai, US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West, the European Union, and a number of countries called for an Afghan gathering to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan.
